The work

What does working at Fifty One Degrees actually look like?

You’ll be embedded in a client team from your first week, working on live problems across sectors including financial services, retail, property, and professional services. Projects typically start as a proof of concept (2–4 weeks), expand into a beta, and ship to production, and you’ll be involved across the full arc.

The current stack is Python and TypeScript. You’ll work with modern AI coding tools, build AI agents and data pipelines, and handle the full engineering lifecycle from architecture to deployment. No internal tools, no prototypes that never land anywhere.

How we work

Small teams, real ownership, a culture that ships

Ship.
Working software in the client’s hands, fast.
Learn.
Real results against real data teach more than a roadmap.
Iterate.
Short cycles keep teams moving and outcomes visible.

At Fifty One Degrees we follow Ship. Learn. Iterate., a short-cycle delivery culture that keeps teams moving and outcomes visible. Teams are small and agile. There is no layer of middle management between you and the client, or between you and the founders.

Nick Harding (CEO, ex-Fluro) and Mark Somers (CPO, ex-4most, PhD Astrophysics) are actively involved in projects and coaching. You’ll get direct access to both from the start.

We support hybrid and remote working, with in-person sessions to strengthen team connections and spark collaboration. We also offer structured ramp-up and mentoring for anyone returning to the industry after a break.

Common questions

Questions candidates usually ask about working at Fifty One Degrees

Do I need prior AI consultancy experience to join Fifty One Degrees?

No. Fifty One Degrees hires for strong engineering foundations and intellectual curiosity, not sector-specific consulting experience. Most of what you’ll do is best learned on live projects. What matters is that you can write good software, communicate clearly with clients, and are comfortable working at pace.

What does the interview process look like for experienced roles?

Typically: a short initial call to discuss the role and your background, a technical exercise relevant to the role (take-home or live, depending on the position), and a final conversation with the founders. Most processes complete within two weeks.

Where is the team based?

Fifty One Degrees has offices in London and New York. Most of the team works hybrid, with in-person collaboration when it adds value. Remote working is fully supported and common.

Does Fifty One Degrees support flexible or part-time working?

Yes. Fifty One Degrees supports part-time, hybrid, and remote arrangements. We also provide structured ramp-up and mentoring for people returning after a career break.

Can I apply if there isn’t a role currently listed that fits?

Yes. Fifty One Degrees hires opportunistically for strong candidates and keeps speculative applications on file. Get in touch to be considered.

How does the Graduate Programme differ from a standard graduate scheme?

Fifty One Degrees’ Graduate Programme places graduates on live client projects rather than in a structured rotation. You’ll work in a real engineering role with real client accountability from the start, and receive mentorship directly from the founders. There is no separate graduate "cohort": you join the team.
