The Team
At Fifty One Degrees, our teams are small, agile, and highly collaborative. As a Mid-Level Software Engineer, you’ll be actively involved in every stage of development, from designing and building AI-driven systems to deploying and supporting production-ready solutions. We value adaptability, initiative, and high-quality engineering standards. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, product owners, and client teams—collaborating both internally and externally to deliver practical, AI-powered impact.
Our core technology stack includes Python and TypeScript, used to develop scalable applications and AI agents. We also make extensive use of modern AI coding tools, frameworks, and design approaches, so you’ll be expanding your skill set while helping us stay on the cutting edge.
The Role
As a Mid-Level Software Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate closely with teammates and client teams to build and maintain AI-driven services, taking ownership of the quality and delivery of your code.
- Design, implement, and document system architectures, contributing to both engineering and operational decisions.
- Use modern AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development and improve reliability.
- Engage in requirements gathering, code reviews, testing, and deployment.
- Actively participate in team meetings, retrospectives, and planning sessions, sharing insights to help move projects forward.
- Support colleagues and contribute to our culture of “ship, learn, iterate.”
About You
You bring solid engineering experience and are motivated to deliver impactful software. You thrive in collaborative environments where you can communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, while also being proactive and independent when needed.
An ideal candidate will:
- Be a natural problem solver, able to analyse complex challenges and create practical solutions.
- Communicate clearly and confidently, especially when working directly with client teams.
- Show initiative and self-starting energy, taking responsibility for driving work forward.
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and fast-moving projects.
- Have experience with Python and/or TypeScript.
- Be familiar with AI system design and modern AI coding tools.
- Share our values of openness, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Have the legal right to work in the UK at the time of application.
